For many years musician and composer Joseph Haydn lived and worked at the court of the Esterházy family in Eisenstadt. Today his former home is a museum and invites visitors to step back into the time of the great composer. Joseph Haydn acquired the Baroque house and Haydn herb garden in 1766 and lived there for 12 years. There is no other place that so comprehensively portrays the private life and work of Joseph Haydn. In the carefully reconstructed rooms, in “Zimmer, Kuchl und Cammer”, in other words in the living room, kitchen and bedchamber, we see Haydn in a way that few others can.
Musically, we experience Haydn’s works in his piano pieces, his string quartets and the great oratorios “The Creation” and “The Seasons”. The perfect, authentic setting offers annual special exhibitions, a changing programme of events and an exciting cultural programme for children.
