RUST FISHERMAN’S CHURCH

The Fisherman’s Church is the most artistically and culturally esteemed structure in the Free City of Rust.

The Gothic church is surrounded by a defensive wall. Parts of the building date from the 12th through to the 16th century.

The interior contains a Lady Chapel with 13th century Gothic frescoes and a late Gothic Trinity altar, Burgenland’s oldest organ, a Baroque column bearing a carved wooden statue of the Madonna (15th century), the Gothic tabernacle and the old gravestones and frescoes, which date from the Romanesque, through the Early Gothic, to the Late Gothic periods.
