EXPERIENCE WINE AND FOOD
TASTE THE SUNSHINE
It’s a great place for connoisseurs, but from Kittsee in the north to Kukmirn in the south, Burgenland has more to offer than just internationally famous wines. There is so much authentic, fresh produce that local cooks practically outdo each other with flavoursome creations.
Food fairs are the perfect way to experience the most delicious aspect of Burgenland - from lively young wines in spring to mature reds in the autumn, from pumpkin to black pudding festivals. The wine cellar doors are opened for Martinmas in November and revellers progress from one wine maker to the next, tasting glass in hand.
The “Gans Burgenland” (Burgenland Goose) festival encompasses three dozen events featuring geese, traditional customs and the pleasures of fine food.
Travel the land’s wine routes, stroll down romantic, cellar-lined streets, admire ancient wine cellars and modern winery design, picnic in the vineyards, hike along one of the wine educational trails, sample Uhudler’s typical strawberry bouquet in Heiligenbrunn’s cellar district, drop by the coffee theme park at Scharf World and visit Burgenland’s 13 gourmet regions - after all, you’ve got Zickental moor ox and Seewinkel vegetables to look forward to!
The nicest way to bring the day to a close is in one of 20 award-winning restaurants, at one of three dozen Schmankerlwirte gastro pubs, or roadside taverns.
