For many years the Leithaberg area has been known as “cherry blossom country”, because every April it explodes in a sea of white blossom from the thousands of cherry trees. “Cherry blossom country” is land at an altitude above 400 metres with a long history of cultivation. The area’s climate is heavily influenced by lake Neusiedl, which acts like a massive storage radiator.
The Leithaberg cherry region covers the villages of Donnerskirchen, Purbach, Breitenbrunn, Winden and Jois. Cherries have been grown here for several centuries. More than 15 different varieties of cherry are now grown in the Leithaberg region. www.edelkirsche.at
