Kateryna Titova captivates the audience with her verve, emotionality, and stunning pianistic technique. In the opening concert of the Liszt Festival, Titova's enormous creative forces unite with those of the Wiener KammerOrchester under the electrifying direction of the Spanish maestro Francisco Navarro Lara. Liszt's 1st Piano Concerto is an extraordinarily innovative work that still captivates with the intense dialogue between the solo part and the orchestral body. For almost 20 years, Liszt accompanied this concerto, and we perceive the resonance of his first successful years as a piano virtuoso all the way to his late symphonic style. The program is clearly outlined in the symphonic poem "Prometheus," in which Liszt tells us about the pains of captivity, hope, and the final triumph of the ancient hero. Beethoven's music was sacred to Liszt; his symphonies were ‘orchestral divine sparks’ and were so close to his heart that he arranged all nine symphonies for solo piano as a young man. With the probably most famous symphony of the Classical-Romantic repertoire, the so-called “Fate Symphony,” Francisco Navarro Lara concludes this festive concert evening with the Wiener KammerOrchester .
