ROSALIA-KOGELBERG NATURE RESERVE
Burgenland’s newest nature reserve covers thirteen municipalities in the district of Mattersburg. Some 7,500 hectares of nature reserve cover two nature conservation areas and the Mattersburg Natura2000 bird conservation area. The area between the Rosalia and Ödenburg hills and the Kogelberg is a known habitat for numerous rare and endangered species of animal and plant.
The landscape is superbly varied, with reed-filled ponds, hay meadows, limestone grasslands, orchard meadows, hedges and woods, interspersed with arable fields and vineyards. The area is also known for its strawberries and sweet chestnuts, as well as being extremely attractive to sports enthusiasts.
