The exhibition her*spectives presents works by international artists that focus on the engagement with their own (female) bodies in the center of their work. It features works by the pioneers of the Feminist Avant-Garde, who reacted to the societal conditions and upheavals of the 1960s and 1970s, addressing existing gender roles and the oppression of women, alongside works by contemporary female artists who examine the construction of femininity, questions of imposed shame, morality, and female desire amidst societal attributions, role models, and constraints, as well as their own perception of female identity, desire and eroticism, and female emancipation.
The positions in the exhibition present a diverse image of the female body that is patterned, idealized, wounded, instrumentalized, intertwined with experiences, but also accepted and lovingly embraced.
