Experience the hidden world of moths live.

22.05.2026

With the onset of twilight, many of our native night moth species can be attracted using "light screens" and "bait lines." Many of these species even display colors such as yellow, orange, red, or green and are not at all inconspicuous. Some have a wingspan of just a few millimeters, while others exceed 10 cm in wingspan. Thomas Zechmeister will introduce you to the unknown cosmos of night moths and provide an entertaining and exciting overview of the native species landscape, their significance in the ecosystem, and the necessity of monitoring them for conservation-relevant management measures.
Speaker:
Mag. Dr. Thomas Zechmeister is the head of the Biological Station at the State Laboratory for Chemical and Microbiological Water Analysis in Illmitz. He is also involved in the biodiversity monitoring of night moths in ecologically valuable habitats in Burgenland for natural history management issues.
