EXHIBITION: Traces of Jewish life on our border

25.06.2026

Book: "Dark Memories. History and Stories of Manfred Bockelmann's Children's Holocaust Project Drawing Against Forgetting"

For over 16 years, the Austrian painter Manfred Bockelmann has been creating large-format black-and-white portraits of children and adolescents who fell victim to National Socialism. With his project "Drawing Against Forgetting," he creates powerful artistic memories that make history immediately tangible. Internationally exhibited, the project is considered one of the most significant works of a living Austrian artist.

The image and text volume "Dark Memories" by Heiner Hammerschlag documents the development of the project, its worldwide stations, and encounters with survivors of the Shoah. Numerous illustrations, contributions from expert authors, two short films via QR code, and a removable timeline that presents the perpetrators in various unabashed ways make the work a vibrant space of remembrance – a powerful testament against forgetting.

Registration for the opening is absolutely necessary:
