Program – Tango Seasons
Works by Antonio Vivaldi and Astor Piazzolla in dialogue:
Vivaldi's Four Seasons combined with Piazzolla's Seasons of Buenos Aires (arranged for bandoneon, violin, and orchestra), as well as other violin concertos by Vivaldi and selected "Porteño" movements by Piazzolla.

About the Work
Astor Piazzolla was already a prominent bandoneon player and bandleader as a young musician. He received crucial impetus as a composer from Nadia Boulanger, who encouraged him to focus on the tango.

His Seasons of Buenos Aires (from 1965) refer to Antonio Vivaldi but differ significantly: While Vivaldi composed multi-movement, pictorial music with a central solo violin, Piazzolla's works are single-movement, rhythmically driven, and more strongly inspired by tango.
