Schandl’s Weingut

The Schandl family is fully committed to Rosé, which has seen great success as Rosalia DAC Rosé since 2023. After all, high-quality Rosé wines have always been produced in Pöttelsdorf, primarily from the leading grape variety of the wine region, Blaufränkisch, which achieves magnificent quality here.

The Rosé wines from Pöttelsdorf are becoming increasingly popular not only among wine connoisseurs; recently, the Schandls, along with their cellar master Markus Kurz, received one of the highest ratings for Rosé wines. At Meininger’s International Rosé Award, the winery (then still known as Domaine Pöttelsdorf) was awarded “Best Rosé Producer Austria 2024.”

Dynamic Family History
The Schandl family has been making wine for almost 100 years until they delivered their grapes to the newly founded Pöttelsdorf cooperative in 1956. Under the brand “Fürst Bismarck,” Pöttelsdorf wines became popular in Austria and beyond. In the 1980s, Walter Schandl increasingly leased and purchased vineyards, and in 1992, his son Thomas began to make wine from a portion of their own grapes again. Success grew, and in 1995, Thomas and his wife Gabi opened the establishment “Stegschandl.” In 2009, the Schandl family, along with partners, took over the winery of the now financially struggling cooperative and re-established the brand as “Domaine Pöttelsdorf.” In 2024, the next step follows: the Schandls are founding “Schandl’s Weingut” and specializing as “House of Rosé.”
