Over 30 buildings from the last three centuries have been dismantled by Prof. Gerhard Kisser since the 1970s in various locations in Burgenland, lovingly reconstructed, and thus saved from decay or complete demolition. Wood, clay, and straw are the traditional materials of the structures, most of which are now under monument protection.
The residential houses, cellar huts, storage buildings, barns, workshops, and other structures house a wealth of agricultural tools and items, providing a comprehensive insight into the past agricultural work and life in Pannonia.
The rustic tavern takes care of your physical well-being. Children can have fun at the playground. In the "village shop," you can find culinary treats and handcrafted items from the region. As part of the "Summer Academy for the Preservation of Your Personal Cultural Heritage" and the general course offerings, there is an extensive course program every year.
In 2018, the open-air museum was chosen as the "Most Beautiful Place in Burgenland."
