Stegersbach Castle is one of over 1000 castles in Austria built in the Renaissance style. Originally it was built as a fortification of the counts of Güssing and was owned by the Szenteleky family until the 16th century. In 1581 the Batthyanys were enfeoffed with the dominion. In 1636 Adam Count Batthyány had a Renaissance castle built by the Italian master builder Orsolini on the site of an apparently already dilapidated fort. In 1919, the municipality acquired the two-story manor house and established a secondary school. From the 1970s, the fort housed a telegraph museum and also a landscape museum.
In September 2013, the newly renovated Kastell opened its doors as an inn and event location. The new inn of the good old school is located in the best place in Stegersbach and has an impressive vaulted cellar and a 600m2 banquet area. A two-story arcade gives the historic building its elegant appearance.
