Schloss Deutschkreutz is not an ordinary museum – it is a total work of art, created by one of the most important Austrian artists of the 20th century: Prof. Anton Lehmden (1929–2018), co-founder of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism and long-time professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.
In 1966, Lehmden acquired the then severely dilapidated castle and dedicated himself to its restoration for decades – not merely as a builder, but as an artist. In every room, you can feel his touch: paintings, stained glass windows, murals, and artistically designed details blend with the architecture to create a place where art is not just exhibited but lived.
On approximately 800 m² of exhibition space, you encounter Lehmden's work in its entirety – intense, imaginative, and unique. The experience is complemented by the impressive chapel and references to other works, such as the Lehmden Church he designed in Deutschkreutz. A visit to the Lehmden Museum is more than just an outing – it is a journey into the world of a dreamer who has turned decay into art.
