Immerse yourself directly at Liszt's birthplace in Raiding into the life, music, and visions of the most famous piano virtuoso of the 19th century. Under the general theme „Le Concert c’est moi – The concert is me,“ experience a three-part permanent exhibition full of sound and history at the Liszt Museum and Liszt Center.
Liszt Salon
The Liszt Salon is the centerpiece of the exhibition. Original furniture and decor from the “Blue Salon” of Liszt's Viennese uncle Eduard create an authentic atmosphere. Discover Liszt's stations in life from Paris to Weimar, Bayreuth, Vienna, and Budapest to Rome. Learn more about Liszt as a child prodigy “Le petit Litz,” as an innovator and court conductor, as a dedicated piano pedagogue, a spiritual abbé, and finally about his final resting place in Bayreuth.
Liszt Birth House
In the historic birth house, Liszt and the piano take center stage. Experience how Liszt's performances sparked a true “Lisztomania” throughout Europe: women fainted, concert halls overflowed. Covering thousands of kilometers by coach, train, and ship, he laid the foundation for modern concert tours. A virtual walk with quotes from his great-great-granddaughter Nike Wagner takes you to the original locations of his life.
Liszt Instrument Collection
In the foyer of the concert hall, you can admire valuable instruments from Liszt's time – including an organ from the parish church in Raiding. For Liszt's first square piano, his father Adam Liszt even sold his gold watch. The Parisian piano maker Sébastien Érard recognized Liszt's genius and developed an innovative mechanism that made his virtuosic playing possible.
