The state museum is currently closed due to extensive renovation work. The listed historic building and the administration wing are being renovated. Even though the state museum is closed, museum events are being held at other locations.
The state museum is a universal museum that showcases over 10,000 years of human history in this region. It serves as the cultural and historical memory of Burgenland. The permanent exhibitions "Burgenland: Land in Motion - Land of Encounter"; "Tradition and Customs"; "Archaeology in Burgenland"; and "Biology and Paleontology" display numerous treasures of Burgenland's history, culture, and identity. Annually changing special exhibitions address a wide range of topics and are presented in a competent, modern, and family-friendly manner.
