A romantic castle in the south

Rotenturm an der Pinka

The Lebenswartweg trail, which starts in Oberwart in Southern Burgenland, takes you by bike through the “Wart”, the charming stretch of land on the Pinka, which includes Unterwart, Oberdorf, and Rotenturm.

The gently undulating route is 34.5 km long and can be easily tackled in under 3 hours.

Rotenturm an der Pinka is not just Austria’s only trilingual community, it also offers a special attraction: The highly romantic Rotenturm Castle, built in 1864 by the diplomat Count Stefan Erdödy in a Moorish-Oriental style. The beautifully restored, magical fairytale castle with its 34m tall tower is located in the middle of an 11-hectare English landscape park. It is privately owned and can be used as an event location.

If you want to extend your bike trip, continue north along the path at St. Martin in der Wart towards Bad Tatzmannsdorf, which has a charming spa atmosphere and can be reached in about 30 minutes.
