Kittsee Summer Festival

Surrounded by baroque splendor

Castle Kittsee, a remarkable building that dates back to the early 18th century, lies hidden behind high walls in the middle of a magnificent park.

Kittsee summer festival takes place here with artistic director, Christian Buchmann, putting on opera and operetta productions every summer.

This open-air festival is a favorite of culture lovers, not only because of the magical setting (the stage is situated between the wings of the castle building, opposite the public gallery) and the top-class lineup, but also because of the pleasant atmosphere with its “village in the park” offering culinary delights.

The charming baroque appearance is the result of renovations by László Batthyány, who had the entire building constructed from the original Meierhof in the 19th century. The “marriage” of old and new is as successful today as it was back then, not least due to the beautiful gardens.
