The Franciscan Monastery houses the family tomb of the Batthyány family.

Adam Count Batthyány built a burial place under the monastery church with the Franciscan Monastery, which is still used today. The crypt is arranged in a cross shape under the church and consists of a two-nave larger room and a smaller one under the choir. Connected to it are two other small rooms under the Loretto Chapel and under the sacristy, and another room, slightly lower, under the tower.

An extension was made in 1969, so that the crypt now extends under the northern wing of the monastery building. There are about 100 sarcophagi and urns of the heart in the crypt, which is the second largest family crypt in Austria after the Capuchin or Imperial Crypt in Vienna.

The crypt is not open to the public, but a visit is possible on request and by appointment!
