The Sonnenberg is with 484 m the highest mountain of the Leithagebirge, a ridge at the border between Lower Austria and Burgenland. At the top of the Sonnenberg is the „Sonnenberg“ watchtower, a border watchtower built during the Cold War and transferred here after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Today, this 15-meter high metal tower can be climbed as an observation tower and provides a panoramic view, in good weather all the way to the Wechsel.

On the one hand, a hike to the summit of the Sonnenberg can be started from Eisenstadt and leads to the summit via the Gloriette in about one and a half hours. On the other hand, an ascent is also possible coming from Hornstein via the old forest road in less than an hour.
