Embedded in the charming region of Rosalia lies the municipality of Wiesen. In the mild climate on the perfectly suited eastern slope of the hill range, ideal conditions for the cultivation of garden strawberries can be found.

Since 1870, the Wiesener pineapple strawberry, the "queen of berries," has been planted here. Its intense, full flavor with a particularly pronounced, fine aroma and its wonderful properties when processed make it a popular delicacy far beyond the borders of Burgenland. Since 1981, it has also adorned the coat of arms of the municipality of Wiesen.

Around 45 businesses cultivate the red delicacy on approximately 70 hectares. The harvest begins at the end of May and lasts throughout June. The Wiesener pineapple strawberry is enjoyed either fresh or processed into juice, jam, ice cream, strawberry wine, or liqueur. It is also a true delight as an ingredient in cakes and pastries, which you can enjoy in various local shops, inns, or restaurants.

Every year in June, the traditional pineapple day is celebrated, during which a young woman from the municipality of Wiesen is crowned as the pineapple queen. There are plenty of opportunities to taste the numerous other strawberry specialties available.
