The green belt that used to artificially separate the West and the East is today one of the largest contiguous natural landscapes with many rare species of flora and fauna.
Apart from some short sections, the Iron Curtain Trail is paved throughout. It can be tackled comfortably in five daily stages and shows, in a number of ways, how much the former border area has changed. The route has one interesting historical site after another, like pearls on a necklace.
Contemporary history can be experienced up close in unique places, such as the Bridge of Andau or the Pan-European Picnic area, but the Iron Curtail Trail also offers plenty of other cultural attractions and captivating scenic sections. Thanks to the many cozy places to stop for refreshments and bike-friendly establishments, you can enjoy relaxing breaks with added sunshine.
