Halbturn castle concerts

Delight in Maria Theresa’s drawing room

Halbturn Castle was cherished by the House of Habsburg as a summer and hunting residence. Today, the baroque gem is still one of the most important cultural sights in northern Burgenland.

Concerts at Halbturn Castle take place in a unique setting. Director Prof. Robert Lehrbaumer presents artistic performances in the incomparable Freskensaal, the drawing room of Empress Maria Theresa. A special kind of magic unfolds in this room, delivering precisely the acoustics that the composers envisioned. Beneath the ceiling fresco “Allegorie der Zeit und des Lichts”, created by Franz Anton Maulbertsch in 1756, music becomes a timeless, light-filled heavenly experience. The repertoire ranges from classical and operetta to innovative projects. Stars such as Angelika Kirchschlager, Renate Holm, Walter Berry, Bo Skovhus, Jörg Demus and many others have performed in this magical setting.

The Halbturn Castle Concerts have been musically indulging guests since 1973, usually in July and August, and each year there is an interesting program of events (including readings). Prominent figures with close links to the “Halbturn Castle Concerts”, either personally or through their work, include Robert Schollum, Wolfgang Schneiderhan, Gottfried von Eine and Jenö Takacs.
