Wiesen Pineberries Culinary Region (Genussregion Wiesener Ananas-Erdbeeren)

Juicy, red, and enticing

The town Wiesen is located in the charming region of Rosalia. With its mild climate, the eastern slope of the hill range provides ideal conditions for cultivating strawberries.

The Wiesen pineberry, the “queen of berries”, has been grown here since 1870. Thanks to an intense, well-rounded taste with a particularly pronounced, fine aroma and wonderful processing properties, they have long been a popular delicacy far beyond the borders of Burgenland. They have also adorned the Wiesen coat of arms since 1981.

Around 45 companies grow the red delicacy on approximately 70 hectares of land. The harvest begins at the end of May and continues throughout June. The Wiesen pineberry is enjoyed either fresh or processed into juice, jam, ice cream, strawberry wine, or liqueur. It is a real delight in pies and cakes and can be enjoyed at various local stores, inns, and restaurants.

Give this “royal” berry a try!
