Heuriger and Buschenschank

Heuriger and Buschenschank

Traditional Burgenland

The “true Heuriger” or the Buschenschenke tavern, also known as a Buschenschank, is a typical Austrian folk tale.

A pine branch or sometimes a wreath of straw at the entrance to the courtyard shows that wherever wine or must is processed, it is also served.

This only happens at certain times of the year, when the establishments are “unplugged” and have a pine branch or wreath attached outside to show it.

In addition to this typical form, which is of course common in the wine regions of northern, central and southern Burgenland, there are also wine taverns that have regular opening times all year round. The thing they all have in common is enjoyment of the simple pleasures and their coziness. You can sit in the courtyard, in the garden or in a cozy room inside - whether traditional or modern, the sometimes hearty specialties are all homemade or come from the surrounding region.

Whether as a couple, with the family or in a fun group, a visit here is always a pleasant experience.
