Concert highlights from March to October

The violinist Joseph Joachim, one of the most significant violinists of the 19th century, was born in 1831 in a place rich in musical history, Kittsee in northern Burgenland.

Precious sounds in Central Burgenland

The internationally renowned Chamber Music Festival has been held in dreamy Lockenhaus, a densely wooded town in Burgenland, since 1982. 

Rousing theater at the foot of the castle

The Burgverein has been putting on theater for all the family on the festival grounds at the foot of Güssing Castle since 2007. There are normally two productions, one with a professional cast and one with a youth company, showing what youngsters can do on the big stage.

Outdoor opera at Tabor Castle

Every year in August the southernmost cultural festival in Burgenland takes place at Tabor Castle near Jennersdorf. The outdoor opera is the summer highlight at Tabor Castle. Every year, visitors are captivated by the open-air performances that play out against the wonderful backdrop of the castle. Unique and well-known melodies create an unforgettable evening under the Burgenland stars. 

Days of Jewish Culture & Music Stadtschlaining

Verein Zukunft Schlaining has been organizing the KLANGfrühling music festival for several years now. It was decided that the Jewish history of Stadtschlaining should be incorporated into the annual program, and the Days of Jewish Culture and Music have given the festival a new impetus in fall since 2018.

Operettas and musicals in an amazing setting

The fantastic natural backdrop of Lake Neusiedl has been the impressive backdrop to one of Europe's largest open-air stages since 1957. Visitors are whisked away to a world far removed from everyday life. And they are transported into the world of musical theater at the highest artistic level.

Lively amateur performances

Under the artistic direction of Marianne Resetarits, Musical Güssing has been putting on exciting productions at the end of summer since the 80s. In addition to well-known musicals like “Evita”, “Cabaret”, “Hair” and “Les Miserables”, there are always excellent in-house productions on the program.

An open-air arena

Limestone has been mined here for over 2,000 years. It has been used to build the Roman fortress Carnuntum, St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, and many magnificent buildings from the Ringstrasse era. This historical mining site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. 

Concert experiences at Esterházy Palace

Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt is home to a wonderful baroque ballroom. It is named after Joseph Haydn and is one of the most beautiful and acoustically perfect concert halls in the world. 

Delight in Maria Theresa’s drawing room

Halbturn Castle was cherished by the House of Habsburg as a summer and hunting residence. Today, the baroque gem is still one of the most important cultural sights in northern Burgenland. 

Diverse stage pleasure

In 2001 the festival was launched by initiator and director Frank Hoffmann. Year after year, the Güssing cultural summer enriches the summer season in Southern Burgenland with various musical events. From 2023, the Austrian cabaret artist, actor and director Andreas Vitásek will head the festival.

The largest open-air rock festival in Austria has attracted tens of thousands of visitors to Nickelsdorf in northern Burgenland since 2005.

In honor of the great master

Franz Liszt was born in 1811 in Raiding. His birthplace is now a museum with collections on the artist’s life.
